About Local History Recorders

The Tendring District Local History Recorders is a friendly band of volunteers, each with an interest in one or more of the Tendring Hundred's Parishes.

The main purpose of the group is to provide a forum for the members to share and discuss ideas relating to their duties as History Recorders. This is achieved with two meetings a year, in varying locations around the district, and usually with an interesting talk or presentation organised to follow the meeting. We also have a social luncheon at a local hostelry late in the year.

Non-members are welcome to attend, but must book well beforehand as some of our venues are very compact.

There is a model "job description" available, which gives guidelines for new recorders, but we find that most recorders do things in their own way and to match their own interests allowing for the time and space they have available. All of our Recorders have an interest in old history, as well as recording the current happenings to help form the future history.
